Major Road Projects Victoria’s (MRPV) two-year Civil Construction Safety Cadetship Program addresses a critical challenge in the construction industry — the shortage of qualified safety professionals. In collaboration with contract partners BMD Group, CPB Contractors, DECMIL, Spark North East Link Tunnels D&C, Symal Group, Whelans Group, and Winslow, the program was designed to cultivate a pipeline of skilled safety experts by combining industry-based learning with nationally accredited training. Graduates are now equipped with the knowledge and hands-on experience to lead safety initiatives across some of Victoria’s Big Build’s largest infrastructure projects — and beyond.

Safety Dimensions: delivering excellence in health and safety training

At the core of the program is a customised curriculum delivered by Safety Dimensions, ensuring cadets graduate with the essential health and safety qualifications needed to excel in safety leadership roles. The  program includes the nationally recognised qualifications BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety in the first year and the BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety in the second year. The program integrates workplace projects, enabling cadets to apply their learning immediately, contribute to safety improvements, and gain hands-on experience managing health and safety in their workplaces.

Award-winning WHS learning & development program

In recognition of the program’s impact, MRPV was awarded the Best WHS Learning and Professional Development Program in the Australian Workplace Health & Safety Awards (AWHSA) in 2023. This prestigious national award recognises excellence in work health and safety education and professional development, celebrating initiatives that make a measurable difference in workplace safety. The program was acknowledged for its innovative approach to safety training, its success in addressing the industry’s skills shortage, and its role in developing highly competent safety professionals.

Safety Dimensions is proud to have partnered with MRPV, delivering work health and safety training that equips the next generation of safety leaders with skills to create safer workplaces and shape the future of workplace safety.

Congratulations to all graduates! We look forward to seeing your contributions in making workplaces safer across Australia.
